Although the variation in the lists shows that there are a number of ways to assess high school quality, Orange County School Board chairman Bill Sublette has pushed the district to consider a tactic to get on the lists.
He has suggested that Orange open a districtwide magnet school with high admission standards to give the county a school that could rank among the best in the country. Such a school could also help attract parents who might otherwise consider a private school for their children.
“We have to compete for students and families, especially for parents who are engaged enough and care enough to go through the inconvenience of moving them,” Sublette said.
