About Be G.R.E.A.T.

Welcome to the Be G.R.E.A.T. blog.

Be G.R.E.A.T. stands for Be Globally Ready to Excel and Achieve Today.    We believe that students should prepare to be successful in the Global Creative Economy.  Merely attending college is no longer sufficient.

A role model is Avenues: The World School, which is a brand-new NYC $40,000/year private school that started in Fall 2012.  The Economist notes that Avenues focuses upon “Equipping pupils to prosper in the global economy”.

Avenues - the World School

Unlike Avenues, which is a private school, we plan to be a charter school, which is a tuition-free public school, that will cater to Orange County middle/high (Grades 6-12) school students who wish to succeed in the Global Creative Economy.  Our limited funding, especially relative to Avenues, means that we will have to be far more innovative in helping students succeed in the Global Creative Economy.

The planned Grades 6 – 12 charter school focuses upon preparing students for success in the Global Creative Economy by helping your children to:

  1. learn better to surpass FL educational requirements for college admissions.
  2. satisfy college admission counselors with better SAT scores through the FREE SAT tutoring that we plan to provide.
  3. wow college admissions counselors with hands-on creative projects, both in our planned design studio, or through global collaborations
  4. gain global experience through subsidized global travel so that all students, including those who are F/R lunch-eligible, can participate.

We plan to maintain a capacity of 120 students per grade to improve socialization between students (see Dunbar number).  The planned school opening is Fall 2014 with Grades 6, 7 and 9 in SW Orlando.  Our planned location will be in the 32836 zipcode, but not necessarily at the “A” placemark.  Over time, we will include the other Grades, i.e. Grade 8, 10, 11 and 12.

We will seek to employ fresh Ivy League Plus graduates, from the US and globally, to be our instructional staff.  We will invite our instructional staff who come from abroad to help us establish educational outposts in their respective homelands.

To balance our crop of fresh Ivy League Plus graduates, we will also tap into the pool of expert teachers, which can include retirees seeking once again to nurture and grow students intellectually.

If you have additional questions, the answers might be available in the FAQ.

Thanks!
Mark.
